Thought For The Day

Earthquake

Down in East Texas I don’t feel earthquakes. I talked to people in Ft. Worth who felt the quake that damaged some buildings in Oklahoma, and was felt, I heard, all the way to South Dakota.

The news I was listening to on Monday morning said that “an authority” had made the statement that those of us in this portion of the United States are now in a position to have earthquakes as often and as severe as the West Coast.

That could be a scary thought. While I have spent a lot of time on the West Coast (I lived in Los Angeles for about 6 months a long time ago, and visit one of my sons in Oregon on a regular basis, plus, over the years I have enjoyed multiple trips to California, Washington, and Alaska) I have never felt an earthquake. I am not sure I want to.

Most of us tend to think of the Earth as being quite stable. While there is a plethora of evidence that may not be true, most people I know don’t worry about it.

But. . .what if it is God? What if He is saying, “pay attention.” Our society has tried, and is trying, to move us (as a group, I think) away from Him, His Truth, and His absolute control of this planet and the entirety of the Cosmos. The Scripture is not lacking in commentary regarding earthquakes (look at references for “earthquake” in the Old Testament). Seems like there is a reference to the increase of such during the “last days.” You are welcome to check that out.(Matthew 24; Luke 21, etc.)

I am sure it is just “fracking.” Or maybe it is “global warming.” Or could it be as the Earth grows older the “tectonic plates” just want to be somewhere else. Perhaps it is nothing at all except our imagination (don’t tell that to folks in Italy).

One thing is for sure. If God wishes to get our attention, He has myriad ways to do so. It is just best to listen. Listen! Listen! Before it’s too late.
