How To Encourage Kids

Kids need encouragement. As parents, teachers, ministers, friends, we have an opportunity to provide such, often on a regular basis. We must always be wise in our words, our actions, and our comportment if we are to have a positive effect. Kids hear and understand what is said and done, and the development of their life and lifestyle hangs in the balance.

The World is seemingly bent on just the opposite. Rather than make an attempt to build into a child a vibrant, lloving, Godly, giving, caring personality with a concern for life and others, some seem content to do just the opposite. It is clear that in sexual matters, illicit drugs, lawful vs. unlawful activities, patriotism, and a healthy understanding of Truth, we are losing the battle.

Now comes a new PSA (not yet used by the creators as far as I know) that signals the willingness of some to “do whatever it takes” to push forward their political agenda. The reality that they would utilize kids to do so is frightening.

A new gun control PSA produced by Sleeper 13 Productions has a rather unsettling suggestion for how kids can help end gun violence: Steal your parents’ guns and take them to school. Then give them to your understandably terrified teacher and say, “Can you take this away? I don’t feel safe with a gun in my house.” (The Week) You can see the PSA online if you so desire.

Encourage kids to ignore their parents guidance and leadership (assuming there is some), steal from one’s parents (and make the theft item something that is dangerous to one’s self and others), commit who know how many “crimes” in the process of following the directions (carrying a handgun without a license, taking a gun to school – endangering other students and teachers, etc.), and believe that somehow you have done society a worthy service.

People who make such ads – with or without the hope of using them, should be locked up or committed to a mental institution, for the good of society at large. It’s bad enough that our Society is divided over this issue (gun control), now some unstable people want to bring kids into the equation.

Jesus said: “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to stumble.” (Luke 17:2)
