Thought For The Day

Immortality

The reality of death is a specter that seems ever present in our life. The last place I want to visit is the cemetery. The last phone call I want to receive is news that another friend has died. I don’t believe I am alone in that thinking.

What I do want to think about is immortality. This past Sunday (4/16/17) was another vivid reminder that “death has been swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54) I want to think about that everyday, 24/7, 365.

I want to be reminded that Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. . . .” (John 10:24) But, that will take work on my part.

So, first, I need to be cognizant that immortality is not something that is coming in the future. . .out there somewhere beyond the grave. It is not something that will replace this joyful time of fellowship with the saints, and God’s constant provision, llove, and care in this occasionally difficult and sometimes despairing life where sin and pain are all to frequent, rather it is an ever-present reality here and now.

Jesus said those who believe will never die. . .ever. (John 10) Oh yes, this fleshly body will falter and fail, but the immortal spirit  lives on, without the slightest hint of decay, and we will dwell in the new Heaven and Earth, the Kingdom of the Lord forever.

All who believe are immortal. Here! Now! Live it! Llove it! He and we are ALIVE!!
