Thought For The Day

Learning

Some would say that the Church has nothing to learn from politics. Sometimes I would disagree. Such is the case, in my opinion, regarding President Obama’s speech last evening (September 10, 2013) regarding the matter of intervention in Syria’s civil war.

I chose to share with you not my opinion of the speech, but rather that of Howard Kurtz, Fox News:

The president tried to thread the needle, arguing for no boots on the ground, but no pinpricks. America is not the world’s policeman, but we should keep children from dying. He said Bashar Assad’s use of chemical weapons was “a danger to our security” because other tyrants might use such weapons, Iran would be emboldened in its nuclear ambitions and other tyrants might use WMDs. But no slippery slope.
Then came the sudden turn toward diplomacy, “encouraging signs,” the Russian proposal, postponing the vote in Congress. All because of the U.S. military threat, Obama said. So what exactly was the message? What was the president asking us to do?

Here’s one thing the Church of Jesus Christ must learn – and learning it here is as good as anywhere. We must never be unclear about the Truth of Scripture. We must never muddy the waters regarding God’s llove and grace, nor his righteous wrath and judgment of disobedience. We must never speak without absolute clarity as to the meaning of life, the reality of death, and the certainty that one day all mankind will stand before the Creating, Sustaining, Providing Sovereign.

“Let’s be clear,” God’s grace is absolutely sufficient for redemption from the curse of sin and death. God, infinitely just and righteousness, will never shrink from judgment based on the Truth revealed in His Word – that mankind, without saving faith in Christ, is condemned already, and will spend eternity separated from His infinite llove.

There is no “needle to thread,” no mixed messages, no uncertainty as to what follows. There is only abundantly clear Truth. If you need help with that, contact the Bible believing Church in your neighborhood.
