Our Mission
How ever one may reason for or against the choices made by Broadway Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas, the ultimate answers to the issue are found in clear, simple Truth from the Word of God. Whatever attempt one may make to promote Truth as confusing and less than certain will fail when exposed to the Light.
There is another issue here as well that we must be absolutely sure about. The Pastor of Broadway, according to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, made the following statement –
Broadway, nationally known for its outreach to the poor, wants to avoid further distractions from its main mission, the pastor said.
What then is the “main mission” of the Church? Until we are unalterably committed to that – all else is fluff. Once again the Scripture is clear – our mission is to be obedient to the Father and His revealed Word. As Head of the Church, Christ is the final authority, and we are not free to take actions, embrace activities, or develop any focus that does not embrace Truth.
Additionally, Paul makes it clear in the first chapter of Ephesians that every operation in which we involve our self, every task we undertake, every word we speak and every thought of our heart and mind are to be those which bring glory and honor to God.
We must never be distracted from our “main mission” out of which spring all other ministries practiced by the Church. Getting the “cart before the horse” is simply wasting the resources with which God has blessed us.
