Thought For The Day

Pre-Test

Forgive me for laughing – death is never a laughing matter, but Matt Reed’s story from Associated Press just struck me as funny –

A 5-foot-7, 267-pound double murderer [he murdered two college students]  who says he’s too fat to be executed humanely passed a pre-execution exam Tuesday and was cleared to receive a lethal injection as the U.S. Supreme Court denied his latest appeal.

I had no idea there was a “pre-execution exam” – God forbid the injection should hurt someone – before we execute them. Well, it got me thinking about some other pre-exams we ought to have –

How about a pre-driving exam for anyone leaving a bar after dark? A pre-voting exam that requires you to know at least three things: the name of the candidates, the office for which he/she is running, and the branch of government in which they would work if elected? A pre-marriage exam to see if the participants know each other’s middle name? A pre-child bearing exam that requires prospective parents to understand a minimum of three duties of parenthood? A pre-college exam that proves you can read at the 5th grade level?

I don’t mean to be cynical, but I’ve met a lot of people who couldn’t pass these tests. Thank God He has a pre-test before entrance to Heaven. We will, at last, be safe there.
