Thought For The Day

Red Lines and Such

My memory is bad – everyone knows that who knows me, so I can truthfully say, “I don’t remember past Presidents always talking about “red lines.” We (read: U.S.) have established some, but soon realize that they don’t really mean anything.

With the talks going on (and on, and on, and on) in Iran, we have passed several. The conversations have been going on for ten years, and over the last several years, nothing seems to be accomplished except moving past “red lines.” I know one thing for sure. I don’t have a lot of confidence in the negotiation skills of John Kerry or his Boss. We have just crossed another “red line” or two, but continue to wait on “them” to “come to terms.” I have a suspicion they are not coming. Meanwhile, they get closer and closer to building a nuclear arsenal with which they intend (or so they say) to destroy Israel. . .and us.

Over the weekend, a cautious Kerry told reporters that talks on the final package “could go either way.” …”If we don’t have a deal, if there’s absolute intransigence, if there’s an unwillingness to move on the things that are important, President Obama has always said we’ll be prepared to walk away,” Kerry said. “It’s not what anybody wants. We want to get an agreement. But I’ve said from the moment I became involved in this we want a good agreement, only a good agreement, and we’re not going to shave anywhere at the margins in order just to get an agreement.” (Associated Press)

As someone used to say – Yada, Yada, Yada.

Human life as we know it, on the other hand, approaches the “red line” of death for which there are no “extensions.” On the other side of that line lie two new eternal lives. One, separation from God forever in a place called Hell. (The Scriptures describe it with great clarity, if you wish to read more about it.) The other, eternal life in the presence of God, in a place prepared for those who are redeemed by the blood of Christ through faith in Him. (The Scriptures also describe Heaven with great clarity.)

The “agreement” is made this side of that “red line.” It is at that “red line” that God will “walk away.” No further negotiations, no extensions, no second chances, the “deal” is done.

Hard words, I know, but GRACE is available NOW.  Receive it! Today is the day!
