Thought For The Day

Tell Me It Ain’t So

Is it true that the Washington D. C. School District has set aside several million dollars to pay student for such things as coming to school, doing homework, and participating in extra-curricular activities? And we wonder what our Nation is coming to. (Of course this is D. C. where many of the dumbest folks I have ever run across met semi-regularly in the Capitol building.) I heard that one can make a hundred dollars a month pretty easily if he/she is willing to come to school, be nice, and do a little intellectual activity.

As some of the World moves ahead of us (U.S.) academically, and we find ourselves importing “minds” to practice medicine, build rockets, create architecture, teach in our Universities, and be our brightest lights, we are going to lose this Nation’s unique and unmatched ability to succeed.

Now, this is not the kids fault (though each person has a responsibility to perform responsibly), rather it is the fault of parents, educational leadership, inept teaching, and Government imprudence. There are kids who can’t learn, and kids who won’t learn, but mostly there are kids that are intellectually abandoned by those who must set the example, find the channel that works, and make the pursuit of education an exciting, dynamic, valuable quest.

Of course we are in big trouble until we return to the most basic principle of intellectual acumen: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”  (Proverbs 1:7)
