Thought For The Day

Who’s Running

We are still a long, long way from the next Presidential election, but the runners are at the starting gate, and making their announcements on every hand. So far, the Republicans have the most candidates looking for the nomination, with Dr. Ben Carson announcing just yesterday. The Democrats only have two announced candidates thus far, but that may well change.

One thing that will be at the forefront of the search for votes will be the emphasis on Christianity. The moral and social issues are full-time all the time. And those running on the Republican side are not exactly shy about speaking their minds on the matter.

Reuters lists the following examples:

“In the past month, we have seen religious liberty under assault at an unprecedented level,” said Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.

Mike Huckabee: “We are moving rapidly toward Christianity becoming a crime.”

Corporate America needs to be careful,” Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said on Saturday.“We’ve got legislation in Louisiana to protect people of faith and of conscience. Corporate America is not going to bully the governor of Louisiana,”

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker echoed the warning. “We should be standing up for religious freedom.”

There is a certainty that the rhetoric will be brisk and lively. Question is, will anything change after the election? I don’t know if an “actual” Believer were in the White House that our Nation would become “righteous,” but I do believe we would  be better off as a society. The Founding Fathers believed that faith in God and adherence to Scripture was the key to a successful government. One thing for sure – the opposite hasn’t done much for us.
